There are a handful of cool special features in this relatively simple game, but the main one is the free spins feature. You’re able to earn yourself some free spins by landing three or more bonus scatter symbols on the reels as you play.

The scatter symbol is also the game’s wild symbol and awards you an instant cash win when you land three or more. Also, your bonus scatter is able to land anywhere on the reels, and landing three or more will award you 10 free spins, plus a payout.

The theme is based around traditional medieval style fantasy, in the vein of Tolkien and Dungeons and Dragons.

It follows the tale of the White Wizard and his magic crystal ball, complete with magic potions, unicorns and brightly colored amulets. Even the font gives off the feel of an old fantasy novel, with the backdrop showing a simple but effective forest set against the lightning filled sky. Magic and Wizards are fairly common in the world of slots, and this game is pretty standard in terms of its style and aesthetic, although the oil painting style of the objects gives the slot a nice touch.

The Crystal Ball slot game has a simple layout consisting of 5 reels, 3 rows, and 5 fixed pay lines which make it really easy to understand for new players. However, the one thing to note here is that your wins are only counted from left to right.

The game has a variety of symbols including your standard card numbers (Ace, King, Queen, Joker and 10) which are the lower paying symbols, and then the sapphire amulet, a potion bottle, a unicorn and the all-important White Wizard, as well as the Crystal Ball itself, all of which act as the highest payout symbols in the game. These high payouts can earn you anywhere between 150 x and 1,000 x your original bet.

The aim of the game is to land a win by getting 3 or more of the same symbol types in a row starting at the far left of the game. Depending on how many scatters you manage to land, you can earn yourself an instant payout of either 2x, 20x or 200x your bet.

The only bonus feature in the game happens after you get 3 Crystal Balls in a row, beyond that the gameplay stays the same throughout, which is good for simplicity but not necessarily for excitement.

If you’ve played any of the other Bally Wulff/GAMOMAT games before, you’ll recognize the layout pretty much immediately. A very straight forward interface, with all of the controls along the bottom bar, including the bet controls (up/down), a max bet button, your big green spin button and also an auto spin button.

On the top left you also have a mute sound button, a settings feature that allows you to control the spins with the spacebar, turbo spins and the automatic free games entry. There’s also a full screen option if you want to get fully immersed into the experience. 

Surely, nobody plays slot games only for the soundtracks, but even so, it’s disappointing that Crystal Ball doesn’t actually have one at all. A simple folky medieval tune looped in the background would’ve been a nice touch.

You do get one short piece of music when you initially start the game, but beyond that you just get the clicking sounds of the reels spinning, the general retro slot sounds as you play the game and then just the occasional jingle when you get a win. You also get a short little musical stinger when you get the bonus rounds with a voiceover that whispers “bonus” but beyond that there’s very little for the ears.
