Launched in 2019 courtesy of the team over at Pragmatic Play, The Dog House is an upbeat, brightly colored and pretty exciting slots game, aimed towards the more seasoned slots players rather than beginners. Upon release, it was also their first more light-hearted theme compared to their usually more traditional style of games such as Wild West Gold Megaways or Fortune of Giza.

The free spins symbol is a red and gold paw print with the word BONUS written underneath it. You’ll find various red and gold paw prints on the first, third and fifth reels, and if you’re lucky, it will earn you a mystery number of free spins, ranging from a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 27.

If you do get lucky, you’ll be introduced to the Rottweiler character who will meet you in his doghouse, where the game will spin a unique, separate set of 3×3 reels. Whilst your free spins are in play, all of the wilds are sticky and will remain in place until the end of the free spins. Also, all the wilds can have additional multipliers of 2 times and 3 times.

Volatility

Star RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar Rating

The Dog House has a pretty high volatility rating, which means that it is not particularly suited for beginners. If you’re new to these kinds of slots, you might find yourself playing for quite some time before anything happens. This might not be the best or most exciting introduction to slots.

The best thing about high volatility slots is that they offer very high payouts; this is evident from the top jackpot in the slot, which is worth a pretty decent 6,750 times your original bet.

The Return To Player Percentage of The Dog House is 96.65%, which means that if you play this slot with 100 coins, you will most likely get 96.65 coins back as payouts. The RTP of 96.65% is pretty generous as it is almost 0.6% higher than the average RTP of such slots, which is 96%.

Mobile Version

Star RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar Rating

Although this slot doesn’t have its own mobile app, it does seem to be pretty geared towards mobile users. The folks over at Pragmatic Play kindly included a low battery feature in the game options, as well as an option to skip the opening animation and a quick spin feature, so you can game to your hearts content without worrying about your battery draining or your data running out.

The Dog House is available on a variety of different platforms such as mobile, tablet, and desktop, including both Windows and Mac. On mobile, both Apple iOS and Android are supported, meaning the doors are open for everyone to come and enjoy what The Dog House has to offer.

First Impression

Star RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar Rating

Overall, this is a pretty cool, unique little game with a fairly lighthearted feel to it. It’s simple, easy to navigate and has a pretty cute vibe. Perfect if you’re looking for something quick and easy to play on the go without the stress of any frustrating interruptions or complications.

We were pretty impressed by the mobile features, and the simplicity of how easy it runs on mobile. Even if you’re not a fan of dogs, or particularly cutesy aesthetics, this game has a lot to offer, and although it can feel like there’s not a lot happening, when it does start to pick up the pace it’s worth the wait.

Theme

Star RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar Rating

As you would expect with a game called The Dog House, the theme is based around a house that is quite literally full of dogs. Instead of traditional casino symbols, the symbols in this game are a variety of different dogs such as Beagles, Pugs and a strange little schnauzer-esque pup complete with a pink ribbon in its hair.

It also features symbols such as dog collars, bones, and also dog houses for the multipliers (2x/3x etc.) Of course, it also has your traditional card numbers like 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace, which are all lower value symbols.

Gameplay

Star RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar Rating

The game’s format is super simple, with no additional game modes and just the one spin button. It gives you the option to change 3 different elements of your bet:

– Coins per line – Between 1 & 10

– Coin Value – Between $0.01 & $0.50

– Total Bet – Between $0.20 & $100

The premium symbols are the four dogs (Beagle, Pug, Schnauzer and Rottweiler in ascending order). These will pay out anywhere between 10 times and 37.5 times your total bet with a 5 of a kind. The Rottweiler is the most valuable symbol of all the dog symbols. The next two symbols in terms of medium value symbols are the collar and the bone. If you spin 5 of these on an active pay line, you will receive 7.50 times and 5 times your total bet.

There are typical casino card symbols as the low value symbols. The 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace are valued between 1.25 times and 2.50 times the total bet if you manage to get 5 identical ones.

The most important symbol in the game is the doghouse itself, which only appears on the second, third and fourth reels and acts as the wild symbol. On top of that, the wilds contain multipliers of 2 times or 3 times. Various multipliers can be stacked as long as they are part of the same winning combo.

The games max payout is a pretty nice 6,750 times your bet. So even if you’re just betting a dollar, you could still get lucky and walk away with a cool $6,750. Not bad! It’s not the highest payout on the market of course, but we’d be pretty happy to swap a single dollar for the opportunity to win over $6k that’s for sure.

Also, if you’re in a bit of a rush and you wanted to speed things up, the game also offers a turbo mode where you can just hold your space bar and the game will fly through the spins for you without playing all the individual animations. For obvious reasons, we wouldn’t really recommend this, especially if you’re betting a high value. Plus, you’ll miss all the fun!

Design

Star RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar Rating

The background is an animated street scene during daylight with bright blue skies, the kind of thing you’d see in a kids cartoon, complete with floating butterflies, green grass and pastel houses with the actual doghouse set front and center of the screen.

The color scheme is really aesthetic with bright, almost cartoon like features. All of the characters have big bright eyes that give the game a very friendly, happy go lucky feel and even the card numbers are in a big bright, almost bubble-esque font, adding to the fun feel good aesthetic.

Sound

Star RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar RatingStar Rating

We’ll be completely honest; the music isn’t exactly great. It’s a strange blend of one part fairground ride, and another part yoga instructional video. It’s one piece of music made up of harp sounds that loop consistently. The loop is interrupted briefly when you get two bonus paws and the game spins up to see if you earn yourself a third one.

Beyond that the music is strange, repetitive and probably the least exciting part of the game. However, it does ramp up in excitement and tempo when you enter the bonus round, although sadly that is rare as well. The music and sound effects can be switched off in the menu.
